How it All Began...
HELLO SHADE was born out of necessity.
In August 2024, my friend Shannon and I were driving to Palm Springs, bracing ourselves for the relentless desert heat.
I had picked up a pair of cheap, uncomfortable arm bands from an internet retailer, while Shannon—in a stroke of DIY desperation —had cut up her daughter’s bright yellow leggings to cover her arms.
Needless to say, we both looked ridiculous.
Shannon itched her arm and said "You know Nikki, someone really needs to do something about this.”
“OMG, I’ve been wanting to forever—I just don’t have a name!” I replied.
Without missing a beat, she looked down at her hands and said,
“SHADE. It’s like shade for your skin!"
In that instant, I knew exactly what I was going to do.
Why HELLO SHADE?
Growing up in Del Mar, the sun has always been a big part of my life—hiding from it, that is.
Let's be real: it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that the sun ages us. Preventative beauty is key. Every month, we spend so much money on skincare, sunscreens, hats, sunglasses etc—all to protect our face. But what about our arms? Sunscreen always meant sticky residue and harsh chemicals. The UPF clothing options? Not for me.
I wanted to create something different—something you can wear with all your favorite outfits and actually feel good in.
Stylish, functional sun protection that women actually want to wear.
Welcome to HELLO SHADE.
Now, you don’t have to hide from the sun—because we’ve created SHADE for your skin.
Hello Shade is not fast fashion. We create pieces that are thoughtfully crafted and built to last. Sun protection should be an everyday habit, which is why these sleeves are designed to be a staple—something you can wear daily, effortlessly, and with confidence.
Each production run is made in small batches, with a focus on quality over quantity - so you can feel confident in both your style and your choices.
Keep it shady,
